It was a rather unsettling couple hours at First Baptist Church. The power wires feeding the building shorted out and provoked a response by Amsterdam Fire Department as well as National Grid and a private electrician, not to mention the pastor and and all the church trustees.
Thank God for providing the alert eyes of Ptl. Jake Gifford of Amsterdam PD who spotted the smoke, the firefighters who responded and made sure a fire did not occur, the National Grid crew that arrived a timely fashion on a Saturday morning, and Lou’s Electric of Amsterdam for responding within minutes of knowing we had a need.
In about three hours from the time the problem was noticed, the problem had been remedied, at least so that we can have services tomorrow without being in the cold and dark. See you there!
